The Thermosensor is a piece of exploration gear, allowing you to prioritize certain zones:

With a Icon Diplomat in the expedition crew, the Thermosensor can be great to target "wildlife" zones (for Icon Alien Steaks), Zone Intelligent Life (for artifacts), rescue a missing companion, or to avoid more dangerous zones (such as Zone Low Temperatures, Zone Oceanic, Zone Forest, etc.) If the planet is small enough to be explored in one trip, the Thermosensor is unnecessary.

This item does not increase the yield of the aforementioned zones. It only gives them a greater chance to be visited earlier in an expedition.

Facilitates exploration by detecting nearby heat signatures. Expedition : 5x Chance of finding a remaining "Ruminant","Predator","Intelligent life","Mankarog", or "Insect" sector. Paradoxically, interplanetary expeditions can sometimes prove to be extremely hazardous to your vital signs. The heat detector allows you to know ahead of time the size and intensity of any heat signal in the immediate surroundings. Unfortunately, the aggression levels of certain xenomorphs doesn't appear to be proportional to their body heat. In the event of contact with a xenomorph, some sort of light weapon could prove useful.
