Trapper is a popular Mush Skill allowing a
Mush to infect humans indirectly by placing a spore in a room which will infect the next character interacting with the room.
The in-game description is misleading, as the effect is not limited to shelf units, but expands to all interactive objects in the room, including ships, terminals etc.

Spore
- Target: None
- Privacy:
Secret
- Effect: Places a spore in the current room.
- Maximum of 1 spore per room. If there is already a spore trapped in the room, the action greyed out.
- Consumes a spore to infect any character who performs a room action (see Triggering the Traps).
- Room Log: Looking like the most normal thing in the world, [user] seemed to slip something into the shelving unit.
Triggering the Traps
The spore goes to the first character who performs a room action, that is, press an action button with interactive room objects such as Pick Up, Access Terminal, Launch etc.
- Interacting with your inventory (dropping items, installing a camera, etc) and just looking at the shelf units do not count as such.
- The Examine action, on the equipment or room objects, does trigger the trap.
If the character who triggers it is immune (
Chun,
Hygienist,
Antique Perfume or a
Mush), the spore will be wasted. The only hint that the Mush will receive that the trap has been wasted is a mush with the trapper skill will be able to trap the same room again.
When somebody falls victim to the trap, the following log is generated in the
Mush channel: [Victim] has been infected by rummaging in a shelving unit which had been booby-trapped by [trapper]. Their contamination level is currently [level]. (note: with pheromodem, the names will be scrambled for the humans, so they will not easily know who trapped the room).
Tips
For Humans
- Notorious target rooms for this skill are the nexus, Rear corridor, Engine room, and all four bays
- always check who has been in the room recently and had a chance of trapping it.
-
Chun should go around triggering as many traps as she can, especially in sensitive rooms or after a suspect.
- the mycoscan can also be used to trigger traps: anyone with 0 spores can trigger some traps and check his level again. Of course he would need to act quickly if any spore is found, since he'd be infected.
For the Mush
- Try to target a specific character, to convert someone faster
- inform your partner about where you put your spores
