The crew of the Daedalus, being (mostly) human, is susceptible to a myriad of Illnesses, a type of negative status which closely interfaces with the game's Health system. Illnesses are divided into three types; physiological
Diseases, psychological
Disorders and physical
Injuries. The
Mush are immune to all but injuries.
The distinction between the three types of Illness is as follows;
Diseases are caused by germs, viruses, parasites and the like, generally resulting from unsanitary conditions. Visiting Swamp, Forest or Insect zones during an expedition, eating hazardous foodstuffs like
Alien Steaks and alien fruit, doing the thing with a diseased partner, and the misfortune of randomly getting sick are ways to attain a disease. There is also a small chance that a disease spreads by air if infected person walks into a room with other people. Diseases typically come with an array of symptoms such as Vomiting and affect
Health and
. Diseases can be cured using the
Medikit if you are missing
Health (not just having a lower maximum
Health), by being healed in medlab or auto-healing even if you have max
Health, with certain medicines the effects of which are randomised in each game or, rarely, by the passing of time.
Disorders are largely caused by the stresses of the mission, i.e. Panic Attacks or seeing people die in front of you, and mainly affect your max
Morale or forbid you from doing certain actions, while situationally featuring various disturbing symptoms. These are cured by lying down in a room containing a
Shrink for several cycles, or by specific randomized medicines and alien fruit.
Injuries are caused almost entirely by either being successfully attacked or failing an attack,and hurting yourself in the process. They're also the only Illnesses that effect
Mush, as they still inhabit fragile, human bodies. Injuries are largely statuses which affect
Health and
, but also give other nasty effects which severely limit what a character can do. While not always noted in the in-game description, injuries also reduce the character's Max.
, an effect which increases in severity the larger the number of injuries gets. Injuries are remedied via Surgery, which is performed with the Surgical Pod in Medlab, or via DIY Surgery (the latter being more
intensive). Outside of the Medlab, a
Medic can perform surgery anywhere if they hold the
Medikit.
Diseases

Diseases can be cured using the
Medikit, certain medicines the effects of which are randomised in each game, or rarely by the passing of time.
AP loss from Consume actions occurs before you gain AP from a consumable.
Most diseases have a small chance to spread by air if the diseased person enters a room with other people.
There is a small chance to get an illness during a fight event. Log example: "Your attacker has infected you (Flu)."
They display a
Private log that says: "You don't feel very good, not good at all... Hot... Cold... Hot... Cold... You should see a doctor. You have contracted a physiological disease: <illness>".

You're body is extremely badly burnt and you have a very high sepsis risk.
| ||
| One of the fingers on your good hand is broken.
| |||
|
|||
|
|||
| Your ribs are broken, causing pain when your posture straightens. | |||
Room Log: In a great flamboyant act, [attacker] managed to slip a disc in their back. Such a shame. |
Your shoulder has sustained major contusions. Fortunately this is reversible.
| ||
|
|
Your arms are badly burnt. Picking up the slightest thing is excruciating.
|
|
Your hand is burnt. | |
|
Your nose is no longer there, at all, you're a bit scary too...
| Your pendulous arm looks funny but is all the same a pretty serious handicap. | |||
| Your shoulder has sustained major irreversible contusions, your arm is considered dead. | |||
| Room log: Despite a good dodge, [victim] has lost a little blood | You have a haemmorage in an artery which requires major surgery. Good luck. | ||
|
Player cannot use public channels. Private channels still seem to work, if they were present before being injured.
Room log:The echoing of the Blasters is something only the survivors can discuss. [Attacker] is well placed to comment. [Victim] has lost their hearing. |
Your ears are no longer of any use. Although you never seem to listen to what you're told anyway...
| |
|
Player cannot use public channels. Private channels still seem to work, if they were present before being injured. | Your ears have disappeared. Maybe if you look real hard... Makes you deaf.
| You can live without a liver, but for how long, and in what conditions? | |||
| Room Log: [Victim] turns towards [attacker] who is threatening them with their blade. Too sharp, too quick, too accurate, in short, too much... [attacker], despite making a superhuman effort seems to have been gripped with a sickness... | You have a haemmorage - you need surgery. | ||
|
Room Log: [Attacker] leans, draws and fires quickly on [victim]... who takes a shot in the head | You recently sustained head trauma, if you don't find a puzzle-loving doctor, you're taking a big risk
| |
|
|
||
|
|
||
| Room Log: The rifle butt obstructs [Attacker]. [Victim]'s foot is completely mashed up. | That's not even really a foot anymore. | ||
|
|
Your hand will no longer be any good to you
|
|
You can only count on four fingers on that hand.
Part of your skull is missing. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that this can be a problem in several situations.
| |||
|
Shortness of breath, blood in your lungs, no medical assistance, but you won't have to live with it for long.
|
Your arms are completely useless
|
|
You no longer have the use of your legs. It's not ideal, as they're pretty handy. No more a actions.
