Derek Hogan

Derek Hogan is a new upcoming character. He and Andie Graham may occasionally replace Wang Chao and Finola Keegan, respectively, turning the ship into an alternate timeline version where Finola was not captured and Chao didn't make it through the mission.

• As with Andie Graham, Derek's character artwork seems to have been done by a different artist. It may or may not be temporary.
• Judging by his skills, Derek seems less focused on Mush detective work than Chao, instead leaning towards the executive function of the Mush hunt.

Birth on Earth.

Derek cuts himself trying to trim his shaggy beard, which causes a scar. He swears to anyone who will listen that this injury comes from the battlefields of Tau Ceti.

Derek is enlisted into the SDF (Sol Defense Federation) after receiving a propaganda leaflet. His mother wishes him to return home to visit, but Derek decides to cut ties and now flies alone.

Derek slowly climbed the ranks, and acting as a willing and obeying servant it does not take long for him to get noticed by his superiors. He is sent Sol after a promotion and participates in a great battle. Sent as a scout on the ground, he surprised his superiors by taking over an advanced enemy base by himself. By his own admission, he didn't see the enemy communication tower before he accidentally crashed into it and disabled the base...nonetheless he is rewarded for his bravery on the battlefield and promoted sergeant.

After a few missions Derek is posted on Xyloph-17 to oversee the Magellan expedition and report any actions of scientists working in the orbit of Jupiter. He meets Chao Wang, but maintains no relationship with him, preferring to keep his distance and attempt to flirt with the women of Xyloph-17. His reports gradually worsen in quality and his contact with the female staff of the station becomes increasingly problematic and so he is quickly transferred to the field.

Derek runs small missions and manages to complete each one. Colleagues often complain of lamentable decisions, but recognize that the man is lucky. He manages to form a small squad to rescue Chao Wang on a mission on Enceladus . In the upper echelons of the FDS, some see him as a rising star, others fear his risky methods. Alas, they are more numerous and better ranking, so he finds himself sergeant in one of the many schools affiliated to the FDS.

Before the catastrophic results of failing students under the responsibility of sergeant Hogan, he must leave the school.

Commander Jin-Su takes Derek under his wing, and before long entrusts him with an "informal extraction mission" with Chao. He is unfortunately unable to defuse the security system of scientist Finola Keagan's home. Fortunately Derek is able to knock the scientist unconscious and escape. But his partner in this mission, Chao Wang, died after being pursued and shot by a group of security guards.

Derek manages to board the Daedalus along with 15 other crew members.
