About weird items that seem to sometimes be in capsules: the French website states that if someone dies while in a patrol ship, the items that were in their inventory can be retrieved with the Pasiphae. Could it be what happened in the cases stated?
New oppinion-Franfran2424: I don't know what happens to items of the pilot, but some weird drops were from destroyed transports (Pots/Medikits/Rations/Blasters/Grenades). Also, it seems that others could be from this reason (Lunchboxes/Bandages)
