N Faker: /* List of Research projects */

Research plays a vital role in fighting the Mush menace, slowing their advance and making it more difficult for them to perform their actions. Eventually, as research grows more complex and advanced tools become available, a permanent Mush cure and a distant Utopian world can even be discovered. Nothing is impossible for the resourceful crew for the Daedalus!

Mechanics
The Research Lab terminal can be accessed in the Laboratory. It brings up options for fighting Mush, granting the crew bonus Glory Glory and provides a number of useful commodities.

Research can be a Dirty affair, and since NERON will lock unclean personnel out of the research console, wearing the Stainproof Apron when participating is recommended to avoid long treks to the shower.

Participating in research costs 2 AP, and the efficiency is increased for Biologist and Medic characters:

Icon
Description
Efficiency
|| Neither Biologist nor Medic || Base efficiency
|| Biologist or Medic (i.e. only one) || Base efficiency + 4-6%
|| Biologist and Medic (i.e. both) || Base efficency + 8-12%

A character's research efficiency drops with every participation, requiring Relaying to reset it.

The BIOS affects research in that the Crew Lock can be set to Research, limiting participation to Biologist and Medic characters, and CPU Priority can also be set to Research, increasing efficiency by 1-1% or 1-2%:

scope="col"| Base efficiency
scope="col"| Added efficiency
1-1% || +1-2%
3-4% || +1-2%
6-9% || +1-1%
12-18% || +1-1%
15-28% || +1-2%
18-27% || +1-1%

Many research options have certain conditions that must be met before they become available, including the presence of certain objects or characters in the Laboratory.
If these conditions are not met, the research option will not be visible, though any progress made on them is preserved.
The most important conditions for research are:
*Presence of a Mush Sample, which can be replaced by decoding a Xyloph DB entry
*Presence of the Mush Genome Disk, which can be obtained by decoding a Xyloph DB entry
*The presence of Chun, which can be replaced by decoding a Xyloph DB entry
*The Dead Mush (the place of death is irrelevant, it can be even outside Daedalus)

The Glory gained for certain research projects is immediately obtained by all living humans upon completion, and an additional Glory can be earned when reaching Sol or Eden.
Chun earns an additional 4 Glory each time a research requiring her presence is completed.
Finola earns an additional 3 Glory for all Mush-related research.

List of Research projects
There are a total of 23 possible researches. Except "NCC Contact Lenses" research which you must pick up Schrödinger when you do the research, all the rest which require items just need to be put on the shelf. Some research projects require the presence of Chun in the Laboratory, or a ghost copy of her (which requires decoding Zhong Chun's Genome Codex at Xyloph DB).

Hover over the image to see the description of a research.

Mutate is one of the basic mush actions: All Mush are able to perform this action for 3 AP from the start, and no skill slot is required for it.

However, this is not an action which should be used anywhere near the start of the game, as it is irreversible, and will reveal a player as Mush to everyone. In fact, using it too early is a common beginner's mistake.

Upon mutating, the mush player will turn into a Berserker, making them drop all of their items and lose all of their active abilities except for moving, attacking and sabotaging (some passive abilities may remain effective). He will also be unable to pick up new items, or speak in the public channel.

The following message will be shown on the log: Player curls up, clearly suffering. The crewmember's cries resonate throughout the room before ungodly bile spews from their mouth and melts their clothing... How horrific! Player has completely mutated!

In turn, mutating will heal the player 4HP, and give a permanent Guardian status, bonus to unarmed attacks, as well as some damage protection, comparable to a player having Solid and wearing the Plastenite Armor (possibility of "armor blocked damage" combat events).

When Mutate is used to engage in open battle, it is often as a last resort, and can quickly determine how the game will end.
With full AP, a mutated Mush can easily kill a healthy human player (unless hindered by Crazy Eye or Pacifist effects).

For better results, several Mush players can arrange a set time for mutating simultaneously as a pack. - Though even then, it is usually more effective to use Weapons first.

Action Unavailable
At times this action can be unavailable. The exact circumstances that cause this are still unknown.
The screenshot on the right was taken by a mush player who had eaten a Cooked Ration after the humans had completed the Constipaspore Serum.

N Faker: /* Actions */

In the depths of space, sustaining your crew can be difficult work. Gardening helps by providing a source of oxygen as well as delicious fruit.

While the novice gardener starts out with a set of Banana Trees, proficient exploration of alien planets may eventually bloom the garden into a paradise of Alien Fruit.

While starting out small, an ideal garden can yield 12-24 fruit and 12 O2 every day.

Location
Each ship starts with 2 mature Banana Trees and 1 empty HydroPot in the Hydroponic Garden, as well as 2 empty Hydropots scattered throughout the ship's storage rooms. Plants and pots should be moved to the Laboratory so that gardeners can share the Stainproof Apron with the lab crew to avoid getting Dirty. Plants should only be moved back to the garden if the ship has completed a NERON project which makes the garden advantageous.

Completing the Extra Hydropots project will add 3 additional Hydropots to the garden's shelf. Also, crewmembers with a Green Thumb will each receive 2 more pots, for a maximum of 12 when Stephen copies this skill form Ian.

Plant Statuses
* Young: This plant does not produce fruit or O2 until it matures. It will mature in anywhere from 1-48 cycles depending on the plant type.
* Thirsty: This plant will only produce O2. If not watered, it will be dried out the next day. (No effect on young plants.)
* Dried Out: This plant will not produce fruit or O2. If not watered, it will be dead the next day.
* Diseased: This plant will not produce fruit or O2. (No effect on young plants.)

A plant's thirst status changes on day change between Cycles 8 and 1: A watered plant with no statuses will change to Thirsty, a Thirsty plant will change to Dried Out, and a Dried Out plant will die. A plant may become diseased randomly at any cycle change. Each mature plant will produce a fruit and O2 at the beginning of Cycle 1 provided that it is not Diseased, Thirsty or Dried Out. However, they do so after possible asphyxiation events (O2 may go from 1 to whatever plants produce, but still people can die because it technically hit 0 first).

The charges shown on a Young plant indicate how many cycles it has gone through in that state. Without the Botanist skill, the charges can be used to estimate when a given plant will mature. Botanists, however, can read plant properties which tell exactly when a young plant will mature.
A plant maturing on Cycle 1 will also bear a fruit/O2 in the same cycle, as will the initial banana trees if the ship happens to start on D1C1.

Actions
Plant:
* Cost: 2 AP or 1 Garden
* Requires: Empty HydroPot
* Target: Fruit
* Effect: Creates a young plant of the same type as the fruit.

Water Plant:
* Cost: 1 AP or 1 Garden
* Target: HydroPot with plant
* Effect: Resets the plant's thirst status.
** Only one watering is needed, regardless of whether the plant is thirsty or dried out.

Treat Plant:
* Cost: 2 AP or 1 Garden
* Target: HydroPot with plant
* Effect: Cures a diseased plant.

Hybridize:
* Cost: 2 AP or 1 Garden
* Requires: Fruit in inventory
* Target: HydroPot with plant
* Effect: If the plant is in perfect condition (not thirsty, dried out or sick) and the user is not dirty, the plant is replaced with a new young plant of the fruit's type. Otherwise, both the plant and fruit are destroyed.

Notes & Tips
* When plants die, they leave an empty HydroPot behind. When they're consumed by fire, however, the HydroPot breaks as well.

* Since Young plants do not produce fruit or O2, they do not need to be treated for disease until they mature. They also do not need to be watered when Thirsty, only when Dried Out, so every other day.

* Plants can become diseased at any cycle change throughout the day. Hence, they should always be checked during Cycle 8, if possible. It's often useful for the gardener to post in general chat early Cycle 8 to give an update on plant statuses - that all are clear or that assistance is needed.

* Garden Gardening Points should be prioritized for the most AP-costly actions if possible. If you know you're going to need to graft a fruit during that day, save them for that. Use them on treating disease and planting new plants before using them on watering.

* Watering costs 1 AP for everyone. As a Botanist, encourage non-botanists frequenting the lab (like Chun) to water plants for you earlier in the day, in order to avoid stressful situations in Cycle 8, and save your Garden if there happens to be nothing more demanding to do. Especially if you are a Biologist who also gets better research value for his AP than them.

* In the very late game, it is recommended that trusted crew-members hold plants in their inventory on cycle changes. Plants in the inventory can never burn in a fire.

* Blackmagick has stated in the French forum that Post-Its do not actually help to reduce the chance of HydroPots being burnt in a fire, because each item in a room is evaluated individually and has a chance of burning.
