Jecht: /* Injuries */

TOC right
The crew of the Daedalus, being (mostly) human, is susceptible to a myriad of Illnesses, a type of negative status which closely interfaces with the game's Health system. Illnesses are divided into three types; physiological Diseases, psychological Disorders and physical Injuries. The Mush are immune to all but injuries.

The distinction between the three types of Illness is as follows;

* Diseases are caused by germs, viruses, parasites and the like, generally resulting from unsanitary conditions. Visiting Swamp, Forest or Insect zones during an expedition, eating hazardous foodstuffs like Alien Steaks and Alien Fruit, and the misfortune of randomly getting sick are ways to attain a disease. Diseases typically come with an array of symptoms such as Vomiting and affect long and long. Diseases can be cured using the Medikit, certain medicines the effects of which are randomised in each game or, rarely, by the passing of time.

* Disorders are largely caused by the stresses of the mission, i.e. Panic Attacks or seeing people die in front of you, and mainly effect long , while situationally featuring various disturbing symptoms. These are cured by lying down in a room containing a Shrink for several cycles, or by specific randomized medicines and alien fruit.

* Injuries are caused almost entirely by character combat, be it via successful attack or painful accident. They're also the only Illnesses that effect Mush, as they still inhabit fragile, human bodies. Injuries are largely statuses which affect long and long, but also give other nasty effects which severely limit what a character can do. While not always noted in the in-game description, injuries also reduce the character's Max. HP, an effect which increases in severity the larger the number of injuries gets. Injuries are remedied via Surgery, which is performed with the Surgical Pod in Medlab, or via DIY Surgery (the latter being more AP intensive). Outside of the Medlab, a Medic can perform surgery anywhere if they hold the Medikit.

Diseases
These are physical illnesses, often affecting HP and AP.

Jecht:

TOC right Communications with Sol provide rich and powerful bonuses.

The Communications Panel is located on the bridge and accessible by everyone. Anyone may view the current progress and help establish the link to Sol, but everything else is reserved solely to the Communications Officer, which makes this title a rather large responsibility. Even the Hacker Kit cannnot override these restrictions.

The Antenna in the Engine Room influences communications:

* If it is down, all actions cost 1 AP more.
* If it is enhanced by the spatial wave radar, the chances of making a connection with Sol are doubled.

Establish Contact
Establishing contact with Sol is the prerequisite for everything else.

This simple action can be performed by any member of the crew for 2 AP or 1 IT, and should be attempted by everyone at the start of the ship (but only once everyone has joined).
The first time it succeeds, every already awoken crew member is granted +3 Morale. (NERON will announce: "Rebel networks: connection established… Health implication: team morale boost.")

If the action fails, it will improve signal quality, which increases the chance of contact on the next attempt.

The signal starts at 0% at the beginning of the game. Each failed attempt increases the signal strength by 4% without boosts, by 6% in the presence of a Radio Expert, or by 8% if you are a Radio Expert. The stronger the signal strength, the more likely you will get a successful connection with Sol.
While the contact is established, this button is replaced by a "connection established" symbol.

The signal may drop:

* If you use the Microwave.
* By random chance (low signal strength makes this more likely).
* By uncovering one of two bad Xyloph DB entries.
* If the communications panel is broken for any reason.

Upgrade NERON Version
The Comms Officer is able to upgrade NERON's version. Each successful upgrade will complete a random NERON Project.

Each participation costs 2 AP (or 1 IT if they have the IT Expert skill) and will further the upgrade progress.

(A connection to Sol is required to update.)

* Each Participation contributes a random amount, with the maximum generally decreasing at higher version levels.
* The first upgrade can take as little as 2 Participations (50% each time), but uprgrades can also "fail" and yield only 1%.
* The project completed can only be one that has not previously appeared in the Nexus.
* If all projects have already been offered in the Heart of Neron, upgrading will do nothing
* The Version number starts at v1.00
** The Decimal place depicts the current update progress.
** If you complete more than 9 updates, the version number will change to v1.000, then v1.100 etc.

Rebel Bases
Decoding rebel base contacts can give various bonuses to the ship.

Once per day, a rebel base will attempt to contact the Daedalus. This will happen randomly between cycles 1 and 7 (inclusive) and will remain the same for the course of the ship. As long as contact with Sol has been established, NERON will announce when the rebel bases attempt to make contact.

2 AP or 1 IT makes progress toward decoding the rebel base signal. Once the signal is 100% decoded, it will provide the bonus to the ship. The amount of AP required will vary based on whether Kivanc has been contacted through the Xyloph DB and/or the Rebel skill.

If the base is not fully decoded within a certain period of time, or if the Daedalus moves before the signal is decoded, the base will be lost forever and you will not receive that bonus.
We salute the crew of the Daedalus. 61 Cygni was explored during your voyage. The Federation is unaware that the majority of our information came from human sources. We are simulating the transmission of regular information using an adapted Pheromodem. By circumventing the Mush surveillance using this system we are preparing the rebel counter attack, Plans for our SP2SP-230 missile have been transferred to NERON.
* Patrol ships' damage is increased by one point
* Provides 3 Morale for all crew members. (Possibly bugged)
|}

Generally, the bases from days 3, 5 and 7 are considered worthwhile, while the others are optional at best. Many people also consider day 6 (brainsync) to be a worthwhile base to decode, especially on ships with many non-gold players.
Overview
Dangers randomly occur over the ship. It can happen during any cycle of the day. The chance increases more and more as the day passes. Different dangers can happen in the same room too. It is important to maintain high amount of health and fairly high of morale so you don't get killed by accidents, especially in late games.

Daedalus
Hunters
Hunters
* Hunters will fire at the Daedalus at the beginning of each cycle
** This will cause the Daedalus to lose some Armor or some armor in the Plasma Shield
*** If the armor reaches 0, all crew members will die within at the beginning of the next cycle and the cause of death will be: "'Your corpse is floating amongst the debris of the pulverized Daedalus'"

Communications Signal
* The signal with Sol can be broken by:
** There are two Xyloph DB projects that will make you lose the signal with Sol.
** Using the microwave will also often cut the signal.
** Occasionally, especially when signal strength is low, the signal will cut out on its own for no particular reason.

Broken Equipment/Doors
* NERON will announce broken equipment at the start of each cycle
* Equipment and doors will randomly break at cycle change.
* NERON will announce broken equipment unless:
** The equipment has been sabotaged
** The equipment was damaged by an electrical spike
** The equipment was damaged by a fire
* NERON will not announce which equipment was broken

Health
Fires
* Always announced by NERON.

* Does not consume oxygen despite popular belief.

* Reporting the fire will put an alert in the Alerts Bar with a notification of which room the fire is in.

* Fires can be caused randomly at cycle change as the ship goes on as well as:
** Mush skill Pyromaniac.
** Shooting weapons and Grenade Rocket Launcher.
** Invertebrate Shell cartridge.

* Every cycle that it goes on (including the cycle in which it started), it can have the following effects:
** Damage equipment (except doors) and break/destroy objects in the room.
** Does 2-3 points of damage to the Armor
** Spread to an adjacent room.
** Injures any crew in the room for 2 hp
*** If crew member dies, the cause of death will be: "'Burned'"

* Can be put out by:
** Manually with a Extinguisher
** Automatically by a Drone firefighter.
** 25% chance for the fire to be automatically put out in every cycle (Including the cycle the fire started) by the NERON Project Sprinkers.

Electrical Spike
Morale
Illnesses: Illnesses (Diseases, Disorders and Injuries plus Symptoms) has it's own page now! However, as this is entwined with Health, it's necessary to also post this here. Symptoms now has its own table, but there are still other problems, such as;
-A massive need to make all of the tables uniform in the width/size of each category!
-A general need to fill out all tables and add in information regarding the details, causes, in-game description/effect (including fluff room logs) etc, and confirm entries. Bugs relating to Illnesses should be put in the details column with the correct notice!
-While Symptoms has it's own table, this table could really do with restructuring into Symptom/Cause/Details/In-game Effect, where Symptom names them, Cause lists the related diseases/disorders/injuries, Details describes the actual effects and any related bugs, In-game Effect is for the fluff room logs that a symptom may create.
The daily grind in the depths of space asks a lot of the Daedalus crew , who find their mental and physical Health diminishing with each passing day. Maintaining your HP Health Points and Morale Morale is one of your many responsibilities in the fight against the Mush, which eventually proves difficult as you are beset by Dangers from all sides. Deaths of vital personnel and depleted resources will drive you to carefully guard every precious point you have, and force you to cooperate with others to restore them as efficiently as possible.

To the left of the play area is the display for your health. Over your picture is a collection of icons representing special statuses, and just below that are your HP and Morale gauges. Special statuses can be good or bad, and hovering over the icons will give a description and sometimes advice.

Health Points
HP Health Points are a measurement of your physical well-being. When they drop to zero, your character will die and you will be removed from the game.

Health Points are capped at 14 HP. If you are playing in Gold Mode, you gain a bonus of +2 HP, making 16 HP your total maximum.

The Mush's Morale is always at maximum and cannot be influenced. This may prompt Mush players to keep track of the Morale they otherwise would have as regular human crewmember, so that they can defend themselves in case of doubt.

Satisfaction
Satisfaction is a hidden health statistic that relates to food and starvation. When you eat, you gain Satisfaction points depending on what you eat. Different foods give different amounts. You will gain the Full Stomach status when your Satisfaction is 3 or more, and you cannot eat any more after that. You lose 1 Satisfaction per cycle. Once your Satisfaction points reach 0, you will be fine for 24 more cycles. Once that time has elapsed, you will gain the Starving status, and will begin losing 1 HP per cycle.

Given a basic max starting long of 14, and assuming that you have already hit 0 Satisfaction at some point in the recent past, eat 1 ration giving 4 Satisfaction, and you will last 5.25 days before death:

(Cycles of Satisfaction ticking down + Cycles before starvation starts + Cycles of losing 1 HP) divided by Number of Cycles in a day
4 + 24 + 14 = 42 Cycles
42 / 8 = 5.25 Days

With Gold Mode: (4+24+16)/8 = 5.5 days
With low health: (4+24+1)/8 = 3.625 days

The only thing that will affect this process is damage you receive in that time from other characters or random room events, or long loss causing suicide. This can technically kill you earlier than that, but the overall chances of that are impossible to calculate at this point. Get your hp and morale to max and eat that Ration, and you should be fine.

Morale Points
Morale Morale Points represent your character's mental integrity. When long drops to zero, the character will commit suicide and you will be removed from the game at the next cycle change.

As with HP, Morale is capped at 14 Morale. If you are playing in Gold Mode, you gain a bonus of +2 Morale, making 16 Morale your total maximum.

Biography
; 3131 : Born on Earth, in Italy.
; 3146 : First expedition off-Earth: At the age of 15, Paola ran away with a troop of space mercenaries. She meets an alter-universalist commune of neo-hippies on Mars IV which heightens her sensitivity to the plight of the miners on Tau-Ceti. Her father finally takes Paula back to Earth at the end of the year.
; 3148 : Paola is sent to Rome to the University of San Lorenzo to study structural biology. Despite her poor attendance, she got good results. At this time, Paola set up her first pirate radio station where she denounced the expansionist policies of the federation. The war on Sol and the ever-reducing education budgets were two of her favourite topics. She definitively cut all ties with her father who as a director of a company using prisoners to mine mineral deposits is directly involved in the shifting colonialist policies of the PresidentGL Maubrick.
; 3149 : Paola meets Kivanç Terzi, a Turkish student who helps her set up her antennae. After losing two transmitters which were wrecked by local police, they pooled their collective knowledge to come up with a revolutionary olfactory method of comunication. By projecting synthetic pheromones over short distances, they managed to transmit information without transmitting detectable waves. They could then start broadcasting again and the campus police couldn't do a thing.
; 3150 : Following the uprising on Ross248, the government ignore the protests and make Mush the scapegoat for any and all injustices. Paola is outraged by this false incrimination and resolves to prove that the people of Tau-Ceti and Ross248 had nothing to do with the bloodthirsty man-shrooms described in the federal announcements. That same year, Kivanç detected unusual interference on the olfactory broadcast channel, but didn't pay it any attention.
; 3151 : When the interference increased, Kivanç and Paola identified exchanges in an unknown language. Kinvanç started trying to decrypt the language and managed to decipher the most commonly recurring messages. They talk about the "purification of the Sol system", "the transfer of violent subjects", and even "the spore bank". He is finally arrested the following month during an anti-spongic check by the FDS.
; 3152 : Gioele contacts his daughter to warn her of imminent danger. The Mush invasion described by the government 3 years ago is real. The entire Sol system is under threat. He offers her a place aboard his Ark-World project ship, the Daedalus, which must save the human race from certain demise. Paola accepts but she wants to save Kivanç first. he is being held in a detention centre in France. She asks her father to transfer him to Titan and into one of his mining colonies.
; 3154 : 48h before the operation to help Kivanç escape, a tragic accident obliges the crew of the Daedalus to move their departure forward. Paola must decide to leave Sol without Kivanç but she vows to get back in touch with him no matter the distance between them.
Biography
; 3131 : Born on Earth, in Italy.
; 3146 : First expedition off-Earth: At the age of 15, Paola ran away with a troop of space mercenaries.
